I’ve always found online puzzle games and card games to be relaxing. I don’t normally carry around a pack of cards or have access to my gaming computer 24/7, so sometimes I play online card games to wind down and de-stress via websites such as Solitaire.org. As long as you have internet access, you can easily head to the website and select which games or puzzles you want to play.
I’ve ranked my favourite online puzzle games and card games available to play on Solitaire.org below, the reason I enjoy using this website is because it runs so smoothly, plus there are so many different games and puzzles to choose from. The games can be accessed by both desktop and mobile devices. You don’t need to sign up or register and no apps need to be downloaded, helping to save precious space on your devices. My favourite part of Solitaire.org is that there are no in-game ads, making the gameplay process smoother with no interruptions.
The benefits of online puzzle games and card games for mental health
Puzzles enhance your mood – They increase the production of dopamine. As we solve every puzzle, dopamine is released with each success.
They help you to un-wind – It can be tempting to try relax and un-wind by doing something else you enjoy, such as watching TV. Although screen time before bed isn’t recommended, it can be helpful to play an online puzzle when you want to relax after a busy day.
They help to improve short-term memory – Sudoku and other logic puzzles are said to be helpful in reducing memory loss.
Improved problem solving – As a lot of trial and error is involved, we are required to look at different ways to solve the problem.
Examples of my favourite online puzzles and card games
Daily Word Search
Nothing beats a classic daily word search! It’s simple, the words you need to find are listed on the left hand side and you need to find the words within all the different letters on the right hand side. I find word searches to be great for keeping my mind active, particularly if I want a quick distraction if I’m worrying about something in particular. If you miss a day, you can select the date on the calendar and find the date you’ve missed to complete that days word search.
Classic Solitaire
Classic Solitaire is the version I’ve played for as long as I can remember. It’s a quick game and it’s great for passing the time, when you do have time to spare. There’s just something about it which I find really relaxing. I do often play the other versions of the solitaire games available, it usually depends on my mood as to which I pick when I go to play.
Minesweeper
This is a classic game which reminds me of my childhood, I used to load up the computer and I would head straight to Minesweeper. On this version, there are three modes – easy, medium and hard. I switch up the modes depending on how much time I have available.
Solitaire.org offers games in the following categories:
- Solitaire
- Card Games
- Mahjong
- Hidden Objects
- Match 3
- Logic Puzzles
- Word Games
- Simulation Games
- Free Online Games (this category is for games not neatly categorised into the other above categories)
Overall, I really enjoy playing the free games available to play on Solitaire.org. Not only do the games load easily on the PC, but I also enjoy unwinding at the end of the day by playing a game on my mobile whilst I’m relaxing in bed. On mobile, the games also load smoothly and are simple to navigate. There’s a good selection of games to choose from and I like that on each individual page for the game it explains how to play (which is helpful if you are new to a specific game). The website is also multi-lingual which means people can play free games all over the world!
