If you’re in need of a declutter and also want to raise some cash (who doesn’t?!) it makes sense to start looking around the house for things to sell to make money. You might not think you have much if you don’t have a ton of valuables and things you’re not using, but it’s surprising what people will actually buy if you list it online. Most of us just throw things in the bin without a second thought, but you could literally be throwing money away, so many people regularly make a bit of cash just clearing out their cupboards and drawers when they’re cleaning the house. You might think nobody wants your rubbish but collectors and crafters are always on the lookout for strange items!

Old Gold

Gold is always valuable. Even if it’s jewellery that’s broken or bent, or even strange things like dental gold that might have fallen off and you’ve just kept hold of. There are loads of scrap metal places and dental gold buyer companies that will buy them off you by weight and melt them down so they don’t even care what format its in. They’ll just extract the gold and you get a nice chunk of cash transferred straight to your bank account.

Packaging

You’d never think that something like empty perfume bottles and fancy boxes would be worth any money, but you’d be surprised! Lots of people collect the glass bottles because they look pretty on vanity tables, even the empty boxes for designer stuff or expensive phones sell for a decent amount online because people want them to stage their bedrooms or package gifts. You literally just flatten the boxes and stick them in the post to whoever buys them online, it is such easy money for something that was going to go in the recycling bin anyway.

Craft supplies

Before you throw away leftover craft bits, have a quick look online because plenty of people buy them. Half used balls of wool, fabric offcuts, buttons, beads, ribbons and even old knitting patterns all have a market. Anyone who makes handmade gifts are often looking for small bundles rather than buying everything brand new. If you’ve got a sewing box that hasn’t been opened for years, it could be worth more than you think. You don’t even need to have a complete collection for it to be worth selling. Someone making a patchwork quilt might only need a handful of fabric scraps, while a jewellery maker might be looking for mixed bags of beads or charms. Scrapbookers regularly buy packs of old stickers, stamps and patterned paper, and schools often use donated or second hand craft materials for art projects.

If you’ve got a cupboard full of supplies from hobbies you no longer do, bundling similar items together can make them much more appealing to buyers and saves everything from ending up in landfill. Even things that look like odds and ends to you could be exactly what someone else has been searching for.
