Earlier this year I found out I’m intolerant to dairy. I couldn’t work out what was causing me so much trouble. Initially I’d never even thought it could be food that was the cause.
My advice: always go to see a healthcare professional if you think a specific food type might be making you unwell.
I’ve been dairy free for approximately 4 months now. I’ve noticed many changes within myself. I’m actually enjoying food now.
It can be hard, as I will check the labels on everything I eat. I put back anything that doesn’t have a label. Living free-from is difficult at first, but once you get your head around what you can eat and focus on that – you’ll find it so much easier.
1. Less problems with my tummy
I know this isn’t nice, but I used to be so unwell a lot of the time. Something I was consuming would cause headaches, migraines and stomach upset. I’m now able to go about my day-to-day life without worrying about if I’m going to start feeling unwell. Sometimes it would come on suddenly and it made me miserable. I couldn’t even enjoy going out in town on a Friday night because I would be worrying.
2. My skin has improved
I’m quite lucky, I’ve never had any major troubles with spots. Every so often I’d get a couple of spots, but that’s just normal. Since removing dairy from my diet, I’ve probably had about 3 spots. My skin feels and looks much clearer.
3. I need to nap less
I can remember needing to nap almost every day before living dairy free. I had very little energy and would feel so drained. I felt odd because I didn’t know anyone else who would need to nap as much as I did. Now, I nap so much less and I have more energy.
4. No swelling around my face
This is my favourite! I naturally have quite a chubby face, even when I was at my slimmest. I’m very self conscious about how fat my face looks. Every so often my face would swell up and people would just assume I’d put on loads of weight. I tried to tell people who said that, about how unwell I’d feel and how something was causing it but I couldn’t pin point what exactly was causing my face to swell. Since cutting out dairy, I’ve not noticed my face swell up in 4 months! This makes me happy. I’ve finally found the cause to my face swelling.
Have you ever cut anything out of your diet? Did you feel better, worse or the same? I’d love to know your experiences. Let me know in the comments below!
