I was recently invited to The Dormouse York which has recently had a makeover. As we entered the Dormouse York, the atmosphere was very relaxed. As it was a sunny day, we decided to sit outside on the decking in the sunshine and enjoyed a couple of drinks. Nice weather or sunshine can be quite rare, especially at this time of year.

Boasting a fabulous selection of food and drink, this beautiful Inn is located on Clifton Park Avenue in York. After recently having a £250K makeover inside and out, the main bar has been completely redecorated and there is a lot more space inside now. The furniture is new, modern and fresh. I loved the décor, it really suited the whole feel.
The Dormouse is child friendly and the refurbishment on the outside and in the surroundings is so much more welcoming now. Without visiting, you might not even realise how rural the Dormouse and the beautiful surroundings are.

As it was a Sunday and sunny outside, it was pretty busy. All of the staff were quite rushed off their feet, bless them. As we were waiting to be seated at our table, I got a glance at the food which looked awesome. I was correct! The portion sizes are generous and the presentation of each plate is well thought out.

To start, I had the prawn and Kiel had the Blacksticks Blue cheese fondue which honestly tasted gorgeous. I love fondue, it melts in your mouth. I went for something quite light as my starter, the prawn & lobster cocktail. This was served with avocado, lobster mayonnaise and rustic bread. It was all beautifully presented and the ingredients were fresh.

For our main course, I obviously had to have a roast dinner as it was a Sunday. It would be rude not to really, wouldn’t it! Kiel chose the British beef burger (£10.25) which was served in a brioche bun with smoked cheddar and ginger beer glazed thick-cut streaky bacon. For my roast dinner, I decided on pork as it’s one of my favourite meats. This was beautifully presented and served with a Yorkshire pudding, ruffled roast potatoes, honey & thyme roast carrots, parsnips, seasonal vegetables and gravy.

Thank you to the team at The Dormouse York for having us. The Dormouse looks incredible after the new refurbishment and makeover. I adored the atmosphere and it was so nice sitting out in the sunshine on the decking afterwards, relaxing with a beverage. Take a look at their website for more information about The Dormouse – it’s also very easy to reserve a table online.
