The world of blogging and marketing moves quickly, especially now in the digital age. That’s why it’s important to keep your blogging industry knowledge up to date and your blog relevant. That’s why I’ve created this blog post, to give you a few of my own personal tips which I either follow myself or have learned during my 8+ years of blogging and running my own blogs.
Sign up for relevant courses or workshops
By keeping your knowledge up to date, you can make sure you don’t miss out on any new trends, apps, techniques, etc. You can easily find workshops or courses local to you, usually by just doing a quick google. For example, you may be wanting to learn more about SEO and there are some useful workshops, including this 2 day SEO London course. There will always be information included about what topics/subjects the course or workshop covers, so you can get a feel if that’s the ideal one for you.
Create evergreen content
This is a good tip for blogging in general and the only thing it will cost you, is your time (which is obviously valuable) but it’s worth it. You can either write about evergreen topics which are relevant to your blog, or you can simply make sure you don’t add any details into your posts which dates it e.g. specific events, trending memes, or other hot topics at that time. Although these things may be popular now, they probably won’t be in the near future.
Attend blogging and marketing networking events and conferences
One particular tip I was given many years ago is, you can stay up to date and continue to learn by attending networking events and relevant conferences. These could be focused on marketing as a whole, on blogging, or be for a specific niche topic e.g. travel bloggers. There are some great industry events for bloggers, such as Blog At The Beach which is for travel bloggers, but you do need to be invited.
Pay attention to trends and what others are doing in your niche (if you have one)
Obviously, this doesn’t just mean copying someone but by paying attention to trends and tools which others may be using, you won’t be left behind and miss out. One recent example could be how big IGTV has become and how some bloggers/influencers are utilising this platform. I admit, I don’t use IGTV myself to post but I know I really should and this is something I do want to focus on ASAP.
Use RELEVANT hashtags
This one should go without saying to be honest, but time and time again I am seeing bloggers, influencers and even brands/businesses using irrelevant hashtags when trying to promote their content. This is a huge no currently, especially as the social media platforms algorithms don’t like this and may see you/your account and content as spam. You need to think about what hashtags your target audience are using and take it from there, instead of randomly selecting spammy hashtags. It just doesn’t look great.
There you have it – my 5 tips for keeping up to date in the blogging industry. I’m not saying I’m some kind of blogging/marketing genius (because I’m not) but these are some things I’ve picked up on or learned throughout my blogging career so far. I hope you find them helpful!
