5 Favourite Money and Finance Games

Understanding money management is important. However, learning about finances doesn’t have to be boring due to the world of online games. These games are often educational and engaging. Here are my five favourite money and finance games which are perfect for enhancing your financial skills.

These initial three games are free to play and are all selected from Mortgage Calculator, in which their education games primarily focus on money and finance, although they do have many game categories available to browse.

Build With Buddies (free to play)

Build With Buddies is a money themed game, focusing on strategic thinking. It’s clearly based off the popular game, Settlers of Catan. The financial lessons of Build With Buddies includes resource management and budgeting, as players work to gather resources, manage funds, build structures and learn the importance of resource allocation. This game is ideal for 2 – 4 players, although more regularly played with 4 players.

The Powerpuff Girls Panic In Townsville (free to play)

I was drawn to this game as it takes me back to my childhood, of watching Cartoon Network constantly. The Powerpuff Girls Panic In Townsville game includes the beloved characters of the show, The Powerpuff Girls and combines them with learning opportunities whilst Townsville is under attack. It involves five stages where you fly around protecting the city from meteorites, comets and villains, much like the characters do in the cartoon.

Ice Cream Bar (free to play)

I’ve always been a fan of restaurant themed games. Ice Cream Bar involves running a dessert business and as you progress through the levels, you unlock more items you need to serve to customers. This game is user friendly and features colourful graphics making it visually appealing. You can easily track your progress at the top of the screen.

Coffee Caravan (£9.99 via Steam)

Passionate about coffee and enjoy cute games? Coffee Caravan might just be the game for you. I discovered this adorable game, developed by Broccoli Games, whilst browsing games on Steam. As a café manager, you can brew and experiment with coffee recipes and build your dream coffee business in a caravan. It involves you serving customers, unlocking new flavours and purchasing appliances.

Calico (£9.29 via Steam, July 2024 currently on sale for £4.64)

Calico is a casual community simulation game, in which you are given the important task of rebuilding the town’s cat café and filling it with adorable animals (including cats). You can build up your café by filling it with the cutest furniture, decorations, food and animals. I particularly love Calico’s character creation as it allows you to create your own unique character to experience the game through. The clothing options are also super cute. This is a really relaxing game with plenty to explore, with catchy (but adorable) music.

These five games offer a mixture of fun and education, making learning about money and finance an accessible and enjoyable experience. They combine fun with education, offering lessons in money and strategy.
