5 Self Care Tips On A Budget

Self care doesn’t need to be expensive, it is possible to still practice self care routines without breaking the bank. Self care is an important part of looking after your mental health. Life can be challenging for everyone, particularly if someone is neurodiverse. Here are 5 practical self care tips which can be done on a budget.

Make yourself a hot drink and put on your favourite tv show/film

I know this suggestion is so simple, but if you enjoy a hot drink such as a cup of tea or a hot chocolate and settle down on the sofa to watch your favourite tv show or film – you will be giving yourself the time to relax. Everyone has a favourite show/film, but my ultimate favourite show to watch when I need to relax is Friends.

Journaling for self care

There are so many options and choices when it comes to having a journal. You can have one theme per journal, or you can mix it up within the one journal. You can use your journal to track your mood/how you are feeling. You can also have to do lists, track habits, weekly spreads, monthly/weekly goals and so much more. Pinterest can be a fantastic resource for bullet journal inspiration. I’ve managed to find affordable bullet journals with dotted pages online and in shops where I live. Check out this collection I’ve put together on the bullet journal section of my Amazon storefront.

Put your phone away

This is one which I seem to forget to do, but when I do put my phone away and take the time to relax away from my phone – I start to feel better. You can get apps which “lock” certain apps e.g. Instagram or Twitter and you can set a specific time you want your phone to “block” you from using these apps. This is a great idea to help give yourself some time away from your phone screen.

Get some fresh air

Don’t worry about what you look like! Put your shoes on and head out for a bit of exercise. Let the fresh air hit your face and really soak up the scenery. Take your time on your walk, do not rush. Even if you sometimes don’t feel like going for a walk, it can be good to push yourself. As someone who sits working at a desk most days, I feel better when I do convince myself to go get some fresh air sometimes.

Declutter

This may differ from person to person, but I personally find it helps my mood when I tidy up or declutter my home. Sorting through my belongings seems to calm me down and in the long run, helps me to feel better. You can also sort through things and decide if any of it is in a condition where it can be rehomed and given to charity.
