7 Things To Do In The Balearic & Canary Islands

Are you considering European sun destinations for your next holiday? The Balearic & Canary Islands are popular holiday destinations and there is plenty of varied choice of where to go, especially because there is sun even in the winter months. This blog post is part of a paid campaign to promote the Balearic and Canary Islands, as part of their #SpanishIslands Campaign. From largest to smallest, the eight main Canary Islands are Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa. The four largest Balearic Islands are Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. In this blog post I will be summarising what the Balearic & Canary Islands have to offer, including some things which I would love to do myself.

1. The beaches

Soak up the sun on the beautiful beaches. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote which are located in the east part of the archipelago have more natural beaches with white sand, surrounded by turquoise waters. All of the beaches have something unique or special about them, whether you’re looking for a long beach to walk on, or a beach with golden sand, or a family friendly beach which is a little quieter. Remember to research whether there are shops/bars nearby if you’re wanting food and drink.

2. The local food

There are plenty of great recommendations with information about where is good to eat around the islands, especially when it comes to tapas. There are some incredible places to eat, including delicious seafood, but there is also plenty of wonderful options for those who aren’t so keen on seafood and fish. Many of the restaurants will also have a stunning view to enjoy whilst you are dining.

3. Visit Teide National Park

This is one of the biggest national parks in the Canary Islands. It’s said to be a must visit for all travellers, as you will see lava flows, vents and giant craters around the park.

4. Adventure up a mountain

During your visit to Teide National Park, be sure to get the Mount Teide cable car up Spain’s highest volcano. On a clear day, the Canary Islands are visible. Take in the beautiful sights and surroundings, as you buy yourself a drink from the top station of the cable car.

5. The nightlife

Gran Canaria has a vibrant atmosphere and is known for its popular pride events. Located in Playa del Inglés, The Yumbo Centre is the host to drag shows and fantastic karaoke bars, which are popular amongst tourists.

6. Soak up the culture

Discover the local history and soak up the culture, whether you decide to visit museums, explore the architecture or go on a shopping spree. A pleasant walk after dinner each evening will give you the perfect opportunity to take in your surroundings and see more of the local area.

7. Watch an island sunset

The sea fronts look especially beautiful at sunset. Find yourself a good viewing spot, get comfy, listen to the relaxing sound of the waves and watch the stunning sunset.
