You might not think that bedroom design is really all that serious, but it could actually be having an impact on just how difficult you find the mornings. After all, if your room isn’t set up to be both welcoming when you want to sleep, as well as convenient when you’re trying to get up, it’s letting you down! And that’s something to think about right now, if you’re the kind of person who dreads their alarm going off in the morning. Is your bedroom’s overall design making things worse when you’re just shaking off sleep? It’s possible!
Too Many Cushions
They look nice on the bed, for sure! But they’re also a hassle to have to move back and forth when you’re both trying to get in the bed and when you’re getting up in the morning. Because these scatter-type, decorative cushions aren’t really for sleeping on. They can give you a real crick in the neck if you’ve got too many piled up! And that means they need to be moved, which is easier at night, but a real pain to clear up again in the morning. It’s just another annoying step to your morning routine, and will make your bedroom feel messy and untidy if you don’t get round to doing it. Do away with these cushions! Place them in a basket next to the bed, if you really like them, but it’s best to simply get more colourful, patterned cases for your actual pillows instead.
Your Curtains Don’t Let in Enough Light
How thick are your curtains? If they’re blackout curtains that prevent any light from getting in until you say so, you may be doing your morning self a disservice. Because while this means the sun won’t be waking you up before your alarm does, it also means you’re not really giving yourself a chance to wake up without something screaming away in your ear. Opt for thinner, more sheer curtains that will let the light in bit by bit as it gets brighter outside. It’s more gentle on your brain, and you’ll have far fewer rude awakenings when it’s actually time to get up.
A Wardrobe That’s Hard to Sift Through
How difficult is it to get dressed in the mornings? If your wardrobe is small, yet packed to the brim with clothes, you’re going to find it hard to put an outfit together on the spot. You need a better clothes hanging system here, and maybe even to label the shelves inside your wardrobe according to what’s actually supposed to go there. That’ll make grabbing things at a glance much easier, especially if your eyes are still jammed up with sleep. And if you’ve got the budget for it, a bespoke wardrobe is always a good way round this problem! They fit smaller spaces much better!
Your bedroom design could be making mornings a bit worse. Check if these issues exist in your room and get rid of them!
