Most people have Christmas traditions, whether it’s with family, friends or a little something for yourself. For day 20’s post, I’ve decided to do something a little different. Not only am I sharing my own Christmas traditions with you, but I’ve spoken to a variety of other bloggers and asked them what their traditions are.

Firstly, I thought I’d share my own traditions. My birthday is Christmas eve so usually, I do something to celebrate. Sometimes I go out with my friends the night before and other years, I’ve just spent the day at a beautiful spa somewhere in Yorkshire with my wonderful mum.
On the evening of either Christmas eve (my birthday) or Christmas Day, we usually sit as a family in front of the TV and share cheese & crackers with grapes as a family. This year will be hugely different though, because I’m spending my first Christmas with my boyfriend and his lovely family. I’m looking forward to experiencing his families traditions.
Glasses Girl: “My mum, sister and I go to the seaside on Christmas day morning and take our own ice cream.”
Eat Sleep Luisa Repeat: “My family and I do secret Santa where you have to guess who the present is for/from – the only hint you get is a poem written by the gifter about the giftee.”
Inside Lauras Head: “We open a present on Christmas Eve each year, and then try to talk ourselves out of opening any more.”
An Ocean Glimmer: “We are allowed to open one small present on Christmas Eve evening, even the dog! Also Dad is Head Chef on Christmas Day, only time of year my Mum allows him to cook, I have always helped him to make the trifle as well.”
Accidental Hipster Mum: “My partner and I stay up ’til midnight and exchange gifts away from the kids. We have our own private grown-up Christmas so no focus is taken away from the children, but we still manage to have treats for ourselves. Last year was extra special because he proposed!”
Free From Farm House: “We do a 12 days of Christmas where the kids get one small present every day from boxing day to January 6th. My parents always did it for us and it helps the magic last.”
Living Life Our Way: “Our tradition is a very simple one – we always decorate a gingerbread house together on Christmas eve.”
Real Mum Review: “We do santas footprints – I have a printable template on my blog.”
Little Pickles Mom: “Our big family tradition is a walk up the Clent hills on Boxing Day – it’s my favourite part of Christmas! A lovely walk, with a little tipple of whisky from a hip flask at the top and a drink at the pub at the bottom. Just what’s needed after an over indulgent day! Now Boxing Day is EXTRA special as it’s the day my husband proposed!“
NelC3: “We have a few Christmas traditions, which we have beem doing since we have had the boys.
1. Making christmas cookies to hang on the tree and also to have on Christmas day (for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacking!)
2. We go through all the toy pile and have a massive clear out of old games or toys they haven’t played with much. We then take these to the local hospital to donate to the children’s ward. My boys give the nurses the toys themselves and are happy to give to those less fortunate as they know these children are going to be in hospital over Christmas. Toys/games which the hospital can’t take we take to either the hospice or a charity.”
Damzel In This Dress: “On Christmas day, we enjoy a Christmas Barbecue instead of a roast or turkey. Rain or snow, my mum and a designated umbrella holder is out there getting the BBQ on!”
I’ve really enjoyed reading and learning about other peoples Christmas traditions. Individuals and families have such different and unique traditions, it’s so lovely. I especially love the idea of a Christmas Day BBQ!
What are your festive traditions? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to learn more about you and how you spend Christmas.
