Last month Kiel and I went out for a meal with his wonderful parents to a little independent restaurant called Skosh York, so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to review the experience. I’d heard a lot about Skosh from friends, who’d told me it’s so much better and totally different to your average restaurant – they were correct.

I bet you’re wondering what ‘Skosh’ means? As their website explains, “A little or a small amount from the Japanese word sukoshi.”
Offering a grazing style menu and an exciting dining experience, Skosh is very unique. Ideally, you are supposed to pick approximately 15 dishes between the table – obviously this does depend how big of a group you are in.

To start, I really fancied the bread which was house sourdough, acorn dairy butter and gunpowder salt. It was quite filling but I enjoyed it a lot.
I’m not the best with spices, but these kebabs tasted so good. To be exact, they were spiced venison kebabs with quince ketchup and olde york.

As you can see, we ordered a variety of different dishes from the menu so that we could each try a little bit of everything. I really enjoyed the monkfish tempura with burnt apple, celeriac and yuzu. The monkfish melts in your mouth and the flavours were incredible.
For dessert I had the Cheese On Toast. I know that seems like an odd choice for afters, but I didn’t really fancy anything sweet. This dish was made up of baron bigod, truffle brioche and green tomato chutney, which was so delicious.

The food at Skosh York was delicious and each dish was presented beautifully. The menu at Skosh is always changing and updating, so there may be different options during your visit. This restaurant is well worth a visit if you ever get the opportunity, but you will most definitely need to book in advance.
