Buying Fake Followers Is A Cop-Out

The issue of buying fake followers has been an on-going issue in the blogosphere for ages now. Have you ever found a awesome blogger who catches your eye, so you become a reader of their blog and follow their social media accounts. After a short space of time, you notice they have had a huge spike in followers.

At a time where its so much harder to crack social media than ever due to the latest algorithms on Facebook and Instagram, some influencers may be tempted to purchase followers. I’m just going to be honest with you, buying followers is just plain stupid. It is a highly unethical thing to do and can damage your reputation as a blogger. I mean, who is going to take someone seriously who buys their followers?

Buying your way to the top, especially as a blogger, is not cool at all. This won’t attract any of the brands that most bloggers dream of working with, but instead will attract shady websites. Having a large following doesn’t always mean you will definitely attract brands. Due to the fast growth of people who blog now, brands are much more open to working with smaller/local bloggers.

However, it needs to be said: I have a HUGE amount of respect for any influencer or blogger who is growing at an authentic and steady pace. For those of us who do put the hard work into our blogs, it means so much more when we reach our personal goals in regards to blogging.

Please don’t assume that brands and other bloggers are oblivious to the buying of fake followers, we do notice. There are many analytics tools which are used by brands to monitor follows and these tools can tell if followers are real and authentic.

Sure, social media statistics are an important part of blogging – of course they are. However, your follower count or the amount of likes you get on a photo DO NOT define you as a blogger. We can all make our own decisions, but hopefully this blog post has helped you to see and understand why buying fake followers is bad blogging practice.
