Seeing loved ones unwell is difficult. Even though you will want to be there every minute of the day, it isn’t always possible. You don’t need to feel guilty for not being able to provide 24/7 care. There are simple ways to make them feel loved and do much for them while you continue your life. Here is how to care for a loved one in need and guarantee they have everything.
Move them into a care home
While relocating your loved one into a care home might seem daunting, it could be the best thing for them. Moving them into a place that offers around-the-clock care will ensure they have everything they need. You can get home care that is close to your home for your elderly parents, and rest assured that they will receive the help they require while being able to visit often. When they get to see you often, it will make the move a lot easier.
Quality time
While you might think that popping by their place of accommodation for a five-minute daily catch-up is enough, they might want quality time with you. Instead of busying your schedule with daily pop-ins, creating more time when you are free might be better. Spending quality time with them will fill their hearts with joy and give you more time to care for them and have fun. You can make time for walks, games, and other simple pleasures that bring them joy.
Giving them a gift when you visit
Whether you’re visiting a loved one in the hospital or at home, a thoughtful gift can bring them joy and make them feel appreciated. It doesn’t have to be extravagant – a punnet of strawberries or a hand-written card can significantly affect their happiness and well-being.
If you go to see them daily, you don’t always need to take a gift. Your time and effort is enough. But, remembering a small something from time to time will put a big smile on their face. Plus, they might not be able to get small luxuries that they enjoy where they are, so being able to provide them is a lovely thing. They might not receive gifts from their care home, so be sure to make the effort.
Offer yourself love and care, too
Caring for a loved one can sometimes become too much. That’s why we suggest accommodating them in a care home where they can seek 24/7 care and take the pressure off you.
Another thing to do while caring for a loved one and aiming to provide everything they need is to make time for self-care. While you want to put them first, you cannot take after them effectively if you are burnt out. Giving yourself a break now and again and doing anything that brings you joy will make their care a lot easier. Whether you enjoy reading, baking, or long baths, make sure to schedule self-care time so you can take care of yourself too.
