Creating a Beautiful Kitchen on a Budget

The kitchen can be seen as the heart of the home. Whether you are cooking a family meal, indulging in some coffee with friends, or even helping the kids complete their homework at the kitchen table, this is one area of the home that sees a lot of traffic each and every day. Redecorating your kitchen may seem like a costly feat but, rather than changing the appliances or other aspects that come at a high price, you could instead find ways to beautify the space without getting yourself into unnecessary debt.

Lighting

Lighting your kitchen can help it feel that bit more spacious, which can be perfect in a galley kitchen, or even one with not a lot of room. Putting up some spotlights with GU10 LED Bulbs, either underneath wall cupboards or even on the plinth running along the floor, can give the room a brighter, roomier feel. By using LED lighting, you can also reduce your energy bills, as these types of bulbs tend to consume a lot less electricity than their halogen counterparts. Some types of lighting may need to be installed by a qualified electrician, put clip-on spotlights, or even LED strips, can be fitted yourself with ease.

Redecorating the walls

Giving a fresh lick of paint can help to spruce up a kitchen, particularly if the current colour has been tainted from smoke and food debris. If painting walls, you may wish to opt for a wipeable finish, so that any stains will not remain as a permanent feature.

For tiled sections, it is entirely possible that the cost of having them professionally retiled may be higher than the price of the materials themselves. Using tutorial videos, you could potentially buy the materials and then retile the walls, using materials and colour schemes to suit you and your home. Any leftover tiles or tools could then be put aside until you decide to makeover your bathroom too!

Adding a touch of green

Even though you may have an abundance of plants throughout the rest of your home, some can also look great in the kitchen too. Cut flowers in a gorgeous vase can look wonderful in the centre of your kitchen counter. If you want your plants to also serve a purpose, it may be worth considering having a number of herbs growing on your windowsill. These will not only add a bit of greenery to your kitchen and dining space, but also allow you to create some fantastic, fresh flavours within your dishes, that the whole family can enjoy. Many herb plants are also quite low maintenance, meaning they are likely to flourish even if you aren’t quite so diligent with them. Plants are also great for purifying the air – you can’t go wrong!

Having a stunning kitchen doesn’t mean you need to save a lot of money or hire a professional. Instead, you can find simple ways to redesign your space, gaining new skills in doing so, and make it a more welcoming area to spend time in.
