Let’s be honest, when it comes to updating our homes, most of us don’t have the time, budget or resources to complete the big dramatic overhauls we see on social media these days. And while big changes are great, especially if your home is in need of modernisation, it’s not always realistic. Sometimes you just need quick fixes that give your living space a little refresh and help you feel better about your home and start to enjoy things again. Let’s take a look at some quick refreshes that can make a huge impact.
Reposition
One of the first things you can do is reconfigure the layout. The layout is something you can change or free, and it can have a considerable impact on how a room looks and feels. Try moving things from one room to another, changing up furniture or décor. Place your sofa or an armchair, for example, in front of a window or where it can get natural light so you feel it when you sit down. This could be all you need to start enjoying a specific room again.
New Flooring
New flooring can change how a place looks and increase functionality at the same time. For example, if you’re looking at removing carpet in your hallway as it’s getting damaged from kids or pets, bikes running across it, etc, look for the best price laminate flooring so you get an updated look and something that can withstand family life. If you’re not in a position to update the flooring, then look at adding rugs to update the room. They are ideal for all kinds of flooring for every room and are a great way to update floors.
Update Fittings
An understated option, but changing up your fittings can be the perfect way to give a room a little something extra without doing too much. Think cabinet handles, door handles, curtain poles, light switches, etc. You can include things like taps in here if you wish, but that is a slightly bigger task. But small tweaks can be a game-changer for a home, and they deliver added focal points and reinforce your decor style and choices and can be the update that pulls everything together.
Add Art
Or pictures or anything else really, decorative wall hangings add interest and intrigue and are a fast way to change the vibe of an entire home, not just a room. Well-chosen pieces of wall art, posters, family pictures, etc. Maybe try a vintage print with a wall light that ties into the ear or theme of the room, create a family history along the wall on the staircase by getting creative with pictures and family mementoes that mean something. It doesn’t need to be fine art or even expensive; it just needs to be something you enjoy looking at.
Increase Lighting
This could be looking at how natural light enters a room or the house as a whole, or it could be changing up how you light your home. A quick swap would be to change lightbulbs or remove anything blocking natural light. A more extensive option is to change lighting fittings entirely, so you get to enjoy a home that is loaded with light that makes you feel good all year round.
