Eenie, Meenie, Minie, No – Who’s The Maid Of Honour?

As a bride, you’re going to find weddings a stressful time. It’s an inevitable feeling when you’re in charge of the biggest day of your life. One of the big questions your girlfriends will be waiting for you to answer is who your maid of honour will be. While we can’t all have every friend as an equal maid of honour, you need to think of your best friend/relative to whom you are closest. This is going to be the person that stands at the front of the line and smiles as you say your vows, holding your bouquet proudly for you the whole time.

It’s an honour that you give someone who means something to you. You also have to balance this with the responsibilities that come with such a title. Your maid of honour will need to search bridesmaid dresses by colour with you, to help you make the best choices. Her opinion will matter so much more than most of the other bridesmaids. Some of the duties include things like attending meetings and venue viewings with you, planning your hen party and generally ensuring that you are the most comfortable that you can be. But how do you choose? How do you make sure that you have the right girl by your side? Let’s take a look!

  • Does She Get How Big This Job Is?

Weddings are a huge, life-changing event. Your wedding is especially life-changing, so your chosen maid of honour has to understand that. It would help if you had someone who will be able to take the pressure off of you and make you laugh when it all seems a little too scary and stressful. She should be honest with you if things look bad, and she should be able to take the organisational reins should you need her to do so.

  • Be Honest With Yourself

You chose your bridesmaids for a good reason, and it’s not all about their bone structure! You want to be honest with yourself about which bridesmaids are most trusting for this prestigious role in your wedding. You don’t want a maid of honour who, for example, is rubbish with the organisation.

  • Ignore The Pressure

You know the girls in your life will be waiting for a decision, but don’t feel pressured to make one. This is only your choice, and you cannot be guilted into a decision here. Ignore anyone telling you who to choose and why. This includes your mother in law and your mother. Don’t be pushed; this is not a decision that you can make lightly.

  • Be Fair

Obviously, you don’t want your bridesmaids panicking that they won’t be chosen. Instead, you want to make this a fair decision and while your friends may try to push their way into the running, keep the decision yours and be reasonable about how you do it. Don’t put the other girls into a race of “who’s the best” and avoid hurt feelings by being clear from the start who is the maid of honour.
