Flexible Travel Ideas

Planning a vacation used to mean picking a destination and sticking to it, and even labouring over exactly what that would look like for months beforehand. Many people had family destinations they arrived at each year without fail – such as going to the Blackpool seaside for the summer. Now though, having a bit more freedom in how your trip unfolds can lead to some of the best memories you’ll make. Flexible travel lets you change plans on a whim, stay longer in places you love, and skip the spots that don’t quite match what you were hoping for. It also means you can squeeze in a micro-vacation if you really want. The beauty of a more adaptable approach is that you’re not tied down to someone else’s schedule or stuck with bookings you made months ago when you didn’t really know what you wanted.

A lot of seasoned travellers have figured out that the best trips often come from having options rather than rigid plans. So, as a travel blog, how might we recommend a few no-strict-rules experiences? Well, we can’t tell you exactly how to travel, but we can certainly offer some warm recommendations on flexible travel. Try these:

Road Trip Adventures

Not being tied down to a specific area and just driving at your own pace is pretty much the ultimate in freedom, because if you don’t like a certain location, you can head off without feeling too heavily invested in it. A good road trip gives you the power to pull over whenever something catches your eye too. That might be a quirky roadside attraction or a sunset spot you want to cook on your hot plate. A good number of travellers find that motorhome hire offers the perfect mix of comfort and freedom – and it’s a nice way to mix having a holiday home that can be mobile and set up in different private parks each night.

Island Hopping

There are some wonderful islands to explore in this world, and many have comforting, calming boat access you can use to get from A to B in a novel, exciting way. Some good examples are the classic Greek Islands with Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and Rhodes, or Thailand and the Philippines. If you don’t usually go out of your way to experience islands, you might fall in love with a quiet beach and decide to stick around for an extra few days, or hear about an amazing snorkelling spot on the next island over and go to that. It’s wonderful having flexible ferry tickets and accommodation bookings, because it means you can do each in a day.

Interrailing Or Further Train Travel

Train travel through a region or continent, like Europe with its interrailing program, gives you the flexibility to hop on and off as you please. You could spend a few extra days in a beautiful city or village or just go ahead if somewhere doesn’t quite click. The journey becomes part of the adventure, because of the pensive nature of rail travel, and you’ll get to see how the landscape and culture change as you roll through different areas. It’s a win-win and a sustainable way of getting around too.

With this advice, we hope you can find a great deal of flexibility in how you get out there to explore the world.
