Winter is a hard time to be healthy. Everyone is picking up stomach bugs, getting a case of cold and flu, and feeling real blue about everything going on around them. And whilst all of these issues are bad for you, the worst can be just how low your mood can get when darkness draws in early. You can get over a cold. You can visit a doctor to alleviate gastro symptoms. But in seeing a medical professional about SAD and other seasonal disorders, your mileage may vary. So, what can you do to help yourself out? Here are some tips.
Get Out with the Sun
Sunlight hours during the winter are strictly limited. As such, you may need to get up a bit earlier than usual and spend a good hour or so outside. Soak up the rays whilst you’ve got the chance and get the day started right! You can then use something like a sunlight lamp in between sunrise and sunset and simulate a nice sunny, blue sky day within your own living room. Vitamin D is in short supply right now, but with this routine, you won’t have to suffer for too long.
Stay in Touch with Loved Ones
It’s more important than ever to schedule a coffee date or a lunch with the people you love. Winter can seem like such a dark and lonely time, but you’ve got people in your life who want to see you happy and doing well, so head out to see them! If you can, have a weekly catch up with the people who are nearest and dearest to you, and don’t be afraid to shoot off a text message when you’re in need of some extra assurance.
Try a CBD Gummie
It’s a good idea to change your diet for the winter anyway, but incorporating more supplements into your daily meals could be another winner for you here. In the UK we love edible CBD gummies for the way they can help us relax, beat back insomnia, and lower the stress of the holiday period, so they’re worth thinking about if you’re struggling right now. Insomnia especially can be difficult to manage when it seems to be dark all the time, and of all things, you deserve a good night’s sleep right now!
See a Doctor
Even though we said medical intervention can be temperamental when it comes to the winter blues, you should always see a doctor if you’re getting worried about your energy levels and roller coaster mood. You could benefit from tablets or therapy or both, and seeing your GP is the first line of getting appropriate treatment started. Trust in the medical professionals around you when you need help, and if you feel it’s right, get a second opinion on the blues you’re currently experiencing.
The winter can cause a serious case of the blues. If you’re feeling them right now, use these tips to change your day right around.
