That might seem like a strange question – you might not think your home is boring at all – but it’s time to have a little think about this, and it could be that the answer is quite a surprising one. Have you considered how you can make your home look more interesting? It could be that when you really start to look around and become more objective about your surroundings, you realise your home is just a tad duller than you thought. 

If that is the case (and it won’t be for everyone, that’s true), what can you do about it? You can’t just keep living in a boring home because you won’t be inspired or productive if you do. So the obvious answer might be to make your home more interesting, but as obvious as it is, it’s not altogether easy. Yet it can be done with some planning and careful thinking, and with that in mind, keep reading to find out more about how to make your home more interesting. 

Play With Colours 

Colour is everywhere, and you’re going to have it in your home – it’s just not possible for it to be otherwise. Of course, it is entirely possible for your home to be full of boring colours, and that’s what has to change if you want to make the space more interesting. 

The right colour scheme can change your home for the better and breathe new life into your surroundings, so why not take some time to think about what might work best for you? Start by picking the main colour for each room (it could be the same colour for continuity, or you might want something different in every room – it’s up to you), and once you know what that is, you can start looking for other colours that can be used to complement it. The braver you feel, the bolder the colours can be, but even if you want to keep things more neutral on the walls, that doesn’t mean you can’t add some interest in your furnishings, curtains, rugs, or perhaps artwork. 

What’s really fun about using colour is that you can change it when you want to, so you can experiment with a range of different ideas until find something you love, or you can change things up every few months or so, depending on your preference. 

Mix And Match Furniture 

Colour isn’t something everyone is interested in, and sometimes, especially if you live with other people or you rent your home, you might not always get the chance to use colour in the way you want to. That doesn’t mean you can’t make your home interesting, though, because there are many other ways to go about it, including mixing and matching your furniture. 

You’re going to have furniture in your home anyway – you’ll have a bed, tables, a couch, chairs, and various other things – so why not use it in a way that makes your home more interesting since you’ll need furniture no matter what? 

By mixing and matching designs and even eras, you can make your home look fascinating, and for visitors (and even you), there’ll always be something different to look at. Even better, how you choose to mix and match your furniture will be entirely down to you,  so you can have any criteria you want. Perhaps you’ll choose anything as long as it’s made of wood, for example, or maybe you only want things from the 1960s, or perhaps you like a specific shape, and so on. Having an eclectic mix of furniture is a brilliant way to make your home unique because no one else is going to have a collection quite like yours, and a unique home is an interesting one. 

Experiment With Textures 

Texture is something that can really add a lot of interest to a home, but it’s also something that a lot of people forget all about – they’re looking at colour, shape, design, and so on, but not texture. That’s a shame because it really could be the thing that makes all the difference, and it can make your home look fantastic. 

So what should you be looking for if you like the idea of adding more texture to your home to make it a lot more interesting? One place to start is with soft textures that come with things like plush cushions, thick rugs, silky curtains, and so on. Again, like with the furniture, you’re going to need these things in your home (it’s true they’re not vital, but they add comfort, so they are important), so they might as well be things you can use to make your home stand out a little more. 

Another option would be rough surfaces, like exposed brick walls or wooden beams, that have their original natural look to them. Or what about just sticking with the natural theme and using organic textures like the wood that a Live Edge shelf is made from, or indoor plants dotted around each room? Maybe it’s smooth textures that you like the best, and those could include glass, marble, or polished items, for example. 

You can even combine textures so you’ve got a little bit of everything, and that will really add interest and make your home look stunning at the same time.

Add Art And Personal Touches

One thing that instantly makes a home boring is when it looks just like everyone else’s. It might be smart, modern, tasteful, and plenty of other words too, but is it special? Is it unique? Perhaps most importantly, is it you? 

If you want to change all of that and make sure your home isn’t just interesting but is really what you want it to be, adding art and other personal touches is an excellent solution. It really doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of ‘traditional’ paintings, you love abstract art, or it’s sculpture that makes you smile, if you have it in your home, it will make it interesting, and that’s exactly what you want the result to be. 

Remember as well that art doesn’t have to be confined to the walls of your home; you can put it anywhere you want, and that’s just one more trick to help make your home a lot more interesting.
