How to Turn Your Home Into A Wonderfully Welcoming Space This Winter

If you’re in the UK, you’ll have felt how cold it has gotten over the past week or two – and it doesn’t show any sign of stopping! I think it’s safe to say that winter is now here, and we can begin to look forward to the festive season that’s quickly rolling around. If you’re like most, you’ll have family and friends visiting you over the festive period and it’s understandable that you want to make sure your home is warm and inviting. Not sure where to start or are stuck on ideas? Let’s take a look at how you can turn your home into a wonderfully welcoming space this winter.

Give it some curb appeal

First impressions mean everything, and while your family and friends may visit you throughout the year too, there’s something so homely about turning up to a home at Christmas time that’s been decorated to perfection and just screams please come inside. Pop up some decorations, neaten your front lawn, clear up dead leaves and fix wood rot around your windows to make it look more appealing. If you want to make a special effort, consider repainting your front door and adding a beautiful wreath to really add some extra curb appeal. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to make your home instantly more appealing to your guests.

Make it toasty

Having a warm home to host your festivities is essential, but the cost of energy is at an all-time high. Don’t worry! There are other ways you can keep your home nice and toasty. Search your home for any drafts coming from doors and windows. If there is, buy or make some draft excluders to make sure no cold air is coming in and most importantly, the heat is staying inside where it should be. It might also be worth checking your roof for any leaks or drafts too because that might also be an area of your home that heat is escaping from. Not only will you have a warmer home, but you’ll be spending much less on energy costs.

Dig out winter furnishings

Now is the time to dig out those winter furnishings. Switch out your regular curtains for thicker and warmer curtains. Add throws and scatter cushions to your couch and add a rug into your main living space. That way, when it comes to snuggling on the couch watching Christmas movies, you’ll all be comfortable, warm, and cosy.

Spruce up the guest bedroom

Finally, if your guests are staying overnight, it’s worth putting a little extra effort into the guest bedroom. Switch out bedding to winter bedding, add toiletries for them to enjoy, make sure they’ve got their very own bathrobe, and add some lamps and candles so they can relax in your wonderfully welcoming home.

It really doesn’t have to cost much to make your home more welcoming for your guests this winter, so what are you waiting for? Make your house into a perfect home in time for your guests!

  1. I have found the best scented candle brand that makes my home all cozy and toasty, it even crackles like a fireplace! I also like to use fairy lights to add a bit of a glow to the decor, this time of year is perfect for it!
