Use contactless payments on transport

One of the easiest ways to get around London is by using contactless bank cards or Apple Pay on public transport. The Underground, buses, and many train services all allow tap-in travel, meaning there is usually no need to buy paper tickets. The daily fare cap also helps prevent visitors from spending ridiculous amounts accidentally while travelling around the city.

The Tube map may initially resemble a colourful psychological experiment, but once you use it a few times, it becomes surprisingly straightforward. Mostly.

Walk more than you think

A lot of visitors to London underestimate just how walkable the city actually is, but areas like Soho, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Carnaby Street, and Mayfair are all relatively close together, so you can flit between them on foot and doing so allows you to see more and soak up more of the atmosphere, finding hidden streets and cool little restaurants tucked away, with some of the restaurants in Carnaby Street, in particular, being very interesting, as you do.

Book popular attractions early

London’s biggest attractions can get extremely busy, especially during weekends and school holidays. Booking ahead for:

  • West End shows
  • The London Eye
  • Tower of London
  • Afternoon tea
  • Popular restaurants
  • Sky Garden visits

can save huge amounts of time and frustration because nobody enjoys travelling across the city only to discover tickets sold out three days earlier while standing sadly outside the entrance. Planning ahead makes a massive difference.

Don’t try to see it all

It can be tempting to try and fit as much as you possibly can from West End shows to trips on the London Eye to visits to the Zoo, into the one trip, but if you try to do that, you will just end up exhausted and you’ll never really enjoy any one experience as much as you really should London is huge, so i tis much better to pick out a few things you would most like to do and focus on them.

Take advantage of free museums

London has some of the best free museums in the world. The British Museum, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Tate Modern, and National Gallery all offer incredible collections without entry fees.

This is particularly useful because London can otherwise become alarmingly expensive approximately twelve minutes after arrival. Free attractions help balance the budget while still offering world-class experiences.

I hope you love London!
