Review: Around The World In 80 Beers – Leeds

The wonderful Emily invited me to review Around The World In 80 Beers, at their Leeds venue recently. Leeds now has it’s very own bar in the form of Bierkeller. On a quiet Thursday afternoon I met my housemate Jess from work in York and took her along with me to Leeds as my plus one to review the food with me.

Bringing you food and drink from across the world, this is a unique Bavarian themed venue concept. There are three different bars within the building, each serving a different type of food:

1. The Shooters Bar and Grill: An American sports bar which serves American classics, such as burgers and nachos
2. The Around the World In 80 Beers Bar: This offers a variety of exciting global dishes such as chicken fajita nachos, burgers and pizza.
3. The Bierkeller: Containing long benches and German themed glasses.

The venue itself is very easy to find, situated in the centre of Leeds. As we arrived in the bar, we ordered a drink of our choice from the bar. I opted for a Cosmopolitan cocktail and Jess decided on a craft beer. Unfortunately I don’t drink beer as I’m not a fan of it, but Jess was happy enough to sample some yummy craft beer. Jess tasted some of my Cosmopolitan cocktail and said, “This is honestly one of the best tasting Cosmopolitans I have ever had in the world, and I’ve had a lot of them” which made me giggle.

The bar staff were extremely helpful and friendly, explaining to us about the special deals they have available. Jake (who served us) was extremely knowledgeable and he was very welcoming. Jake explained how student nights take place on a Wednesday and are very busy.

Both of us ordered starters – Jess had the chicken fajita nachos and I chose the Anti Pasti Plate. The Anti Pasti Plate was so much larger than I imagined it would be! The portion size of the starters was very generous. For main I decided on the Fungi Pizza, which I really enjoyed. The only criticism we had is we weren’t impressed with the burger, as we found the quality of the burger to be quite poor. However, we really enjoyed the other meals – the ingredients of those, especially the pizza, were fresh and cooked well.

Overall I was really impressed with my experience during visiting this venue. We were so full by the time we’d finished our mains, we couldn’t even find room for dessert – although, they sounded incredible when I glanced at the dessert menu.
