Step through the wardrobe this Christmas, into an enchanting adventure at Castle Howard. The theme this year is Christmas in Narnia, which will be running until Monday 3rd January 2022. I was invited to review this years Christmas in Narnia installations with my family. I tried to take as many pictures as I could, but I didn’t want to give everything away – so I haven’t included every picture I took on the day. After our visit to Castle Howard and taking in the incredible surroundings, I can definitely say we all left feeling very festive.
Inspired by the classic C. S. Lewis book, the Narnia Chronicles, visitors can leave our world behind and explore a remarkable interpretation of the places familiar to Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. The theme and decorations are simply stunning this year. I loved the colours of the ocean in the Turquoise Dining Room, which provides the perfect backdrop for Narnia’s mermaids.
One of my favourite parts of this years theme was the room with a HUGE table and the feast in the Fox’s dining room! Set out perfectly for the fox and his woodland friends, decorated beautifully throughout.
After stepping through another wardrobe door, awaiting you is a room full of suspended rainbow wooden Christmas trees and dancing lights. There are some perfect spots throughout the whole experience to get pictures of the children, including in this room.
As you continue to walk through, you will be greeted by some old friends from Narnia – including a giant model of Aslan (the lion) and the white witch. She is frozen in time and covered in many icicles on board her sleigh.
New for 2021 is a beautiful visual display projected on the ceiling, which is located directly above the four thrones. The ceiling opens to reveal a starry sky, with a variety of animations. The breathtakingly unique display is created by Ross Ashton and Karen Monid (the team behind “Northern Lights” at York Minster).
With every room you enter, there are incredibly stunning displays for the whole family to enjoy. Tickets to Christmas in Narnia are priced from £19.50 for adults and £12.50 for children at off-peak, and £25.00 for adults and £15 for children at peak times.
