During half term I was invited to review the new autumn menu at The Botanist, York which is located on Stonegate. Their York restaurant is cosy, inviting and warm, which first opened in 2016. I’ve visited previously for their gin masterclass event and to review the food when they first opened in York.

The Botanist is well known for their creative cocktails and impressive drinks range. I was impressed with my cocktail! I opted for the classic The Botanist cocktail, as I hadn’t tried it before. It was refreshing and very tasty. I love the presentation and theme of the autumn menu. There are some great food options including deli boards, hanging kebabs, burgers, pies and more.

To start, Kiel chose the Chicken Pâté (served with plum and apple chutney) and I decided to have the Hummus, as I love a good hummus. I loved the presentation of both dishes, which seemed to be well thought out. Kiel’s pâté was served in a cute little pot. We really enjoyed both of our starters to be honest.

The presentation of the famous Chicken Hanging Kebab was as unique as always, which I had with salt and pepper fries. They also have a halloumi hanging kebab on the menu which I was tempted to try. Maybe next time! I enjoyed the flavouring of the fries and the garlic butter from the hanging kebab had dripped down onto them. Kiel decided to have the Cheese Burger (served with lettuce and burger sauce) with bacon as an extra and fries on the side.

On this occasion, we were so full we decided not to have dessert, but I know from previous visits the desserts are mouth wateringly delicious. It was busy during our visit, which was a Tuesday afternoon, possibly due to going during half term. The service was perhaps a little slow, possibly due to how busy it was (as previously mentioned). Thank you to The Botanist, York for inviting me to review the autumn menu!
