Redesigning your living room is a lot of fun. This is one of the most enjoyable rooms in the home to spend time in, and with a variety of use cases and so many different styles and ways to arrange things, you can truly go in any direction you like. Of course, there’s also the matter of choice paralysis to consider, and if you’ve fallen victim to it, you’re not alone. Once you get to the ideas stage, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the sheer amount of choice available to you. It feels impossible to make a decision, and with a plethora of components to figure out, redesigning the room can be a real challenge, even if it’s enjoyable. In this blog post, you’ll discover three tips that can help you create a space that ticks all the boxes.

Begin with Functionality

The first thing you’ll want to concretely identify is how you’d like to use the space. It goes without saying that you’ll be using it to watch TV and perhaps play video games and host gatherings, but what specifically

Jot down three or four use cases that are important to you, and from there, you can start to build out and design a layout and theme that accommodates them.

When considering each of them, how many people will be using the room concurrently, and how much seating will you need to ensure everyone’s comfortable? Where will the focal point be? Start by asking yourself some basic questions and writing down your answers (be sure to also ask your family for their input).

Building a Theme

Choosing the theme for your living room is often the hardest part. The easiest route to go is to simply match it to the aesthetic of the rest of the house – if your home has been redecorated recently, this is a good shout. Alternatively, you could consider a unique theme for that room only. A minimalist look is nice and easy, as you’ve only got a few colours and textures to work with, or you could go boho if you’d like something a little quirkier. The choice is yours; have a look at what’s on Pinterest for some inspiration.

Choosing Furniture

A big part of designing a living room is inevitably going to be the furniture. Begin with the sofas: do you need a two, three, or four seater? Would one all-encompassing piece do, or will you need to go for a full suite? What sort of colours and textures would fit with the aesthetic you’re considering? Once you’ve got that sorted, you can start to think about tables, cabinets, and smaller chairs. Of course, remember to measure properly – the last thing you want is to find the perfect piece, only to find that it doesn’t fit!

Wrapping Up

Hopefully, you now have a better idea of how to go about designing a brand-new living room. Take things one step at a time and remember to take each small element into careful consideration, and you’ll come up with something everyone will love. Have fun!
