Dating in the modern world is different now, especially compared to years ago when you consider the changes in technology. You don’t even need to leave your home when searching for people to date. People are more open and honest now with regards to dating, with some prefering traditional dating, but in particular niche dating as people have different tastes in relationships and dating attitudes.
Similar or shared interests
There may be something more you are looking for in a partner or partners. Niche dating is so much more than just bdsm dating. There are so many different websites now which cover a variety of niches and interests, such as for those with chronic illnesses or disabilities e.g. Lemonayde or Gutsy Dating, websites for those who are vegetarian or vegan, you might be looking for someone older, or for the more adult focused niches such as My BDSM Hookups. Another good example of niche dating, is there are apps for those who enjoy gaming and would like to meet others who also enjoy it. It’s a good idea to use a niche website as you can then talk openly about what exactly you are looking for.
Consider signing up to a generic dating website
The con of using more niche websites is there may be less people on them, so you could try out a generic website also and see which works best for you. By signing up to both types, you can get a better idea of which you prefer. Most of the bigger websites let you sign up for free, so it won’t cost you to at least find out if it’s suitable for you.
Always stay safe
This is extremely important. We’ve all heard those horror stories about online dating which have made the news, so always choose somewhere public when first meeting someone. You also know your own limits with regards to dating, specifically what you do and don’t feel comfortable with. By agreeing and respecting each others wishes, you can probably have a positive niche dating experience as long as everything is consensual. Avoid red flags and toxic dating attitudes. I previously wrote a blog post about niche dating and staying safe, which may be of interest.
You can be selective
It’s perfectly OK to be selective and not go on a date with the first few people who contact you. Only agree to dates if you genuinely want to go. You should also never feel pressured to leave with someone or see them again, only unless you want to.
Enjoy the experience of niche dating
It’s very important that you enjoy the experience of niche dating and feel positive towards it. Take your time and move at your own pace, that you feel comfortable with. Dating shouldn’t be stressful and you should enjoy the different aspects of meeting new people. Even if you don’t meet someone you want to officially “date”, you may even make a new friend if you have common interests. Good luck!
