Let’s be honest, 2020 has been rubbish for everyone, but especially if you’re interested in dating and finding someone. Covid has made the world of dating a lot tougher and it’s sad to see how the pandemic has impacted on people’s mental health and livelihoods. Hopefully at some point in 2021, even though the pandemic will likely continue into the year, restrictions may be lifted and life may become slightly more “normal” (whatever normal is). For this reason I’ve also included a few suggestions for date ideas where you are actually able to spend time with someone, even if it’s socially distanced.
Approaching dating during a pandemic
You should consider what exactly it is you feeling comfortable with/doing and go from there. It is totally understandable if you are worried about the pandemic and don’t want to meet anyone face to face, especially if you are vulnerable. There are still many ways you can date during a pandemic and that is one of the great things about the internet – it makes virtual dating possible!
Go for a socially distanced walk
If you’re local enough (such as living in the same town or city), you could go for a socially distanced date. This will however depend which tier you are in at the time, if you are in the UK. You can choose a location where you’re able to remain socially distanced, but can also enjoy spending some time together, such as a walk on the beach (if you live near one) or walking around some public gardens together. No matter which season it is (spring, summer, autumn or winter), this could be incredibly romantic.
Virtual dating
In the UK, different areas are currently in tiers which means that different cities have different rules to follow. An option could be to go on virtual dates with someone, using apps or websites such as Northamptonshire dating. With some apps and websites, you can video call within the app/website but you could also decide to call privately.
Order a meal together, but separately
Following on from the virtual date suggestion, a specific idea could be to order a meal “together” but for each other. Another date option could be to cook a meal together via video call. This will be super simple to do if you have a laptop, phone or tablet so that you can take it with you as you cook.
Partake in a mutual interest together e.g. gaming
If gaming is something which interests you both, you could agree together on some games you’d like to play. This could be apps such as Word With Friends, or if you have a gaming console, there may be a game you both have e.g. Fall Guys.
Whatever approach you decide to take and whatever you decide to do, you can definitely do it safely and still have fun. Just make sure that you’re comfortable with whatever you do decide on and know your worth. We are all worthy of feeling love/being loved and although times are tough right now, we all deserve happiness.
