How To Save Money On Your Heating Bill

The weather is getting increasingly colder here in the UK and December is upon us. I think most people worry (like I do) about my bills, but especially my heating bill during the winter months. We all want to keep warm and cosy as the temperature drops, therefore I’ve put together this list of helpful tips to help save money on your heating bill this winter. Check it out for yourself below!

Avoid boiler issues by keeping it maintained

Not having hot water or heating can be annoying, but especially if it happens during winter. Make sure you have your boiler serviced, so you know everything is working how it should be and safe. Close curtains/blinds

Whether you have curtains or blinds, if you keep them closed this will help to keep the warmth inside your home. Another related option/suggestion could be to invest in thick curtains, as they will help to stop the heat from escaping out of your windows. Do remember to open blinds/curtains as a morning though, as letting sunlight in during the day will also help to keep the room warm.

Wrap up

This may sound obvious but by adding an extra layer of clothing, you can help to keep yourself warm. I personally have a personal stash of cosy blankets and thick socks to keep my feet warm. I also use my hot water bottle when I’m feeling particularly cold and need some additional warmth. Dressing warm in winter is very important as you need to keep comfortable and I love going through my winter wardrobe ahead of each winter.

Take advantage of your oven

I have a open plan kitchen and living room in my current apartment. By keeping the oven door open after cooking (if it is safe to do so), this then helps to heat up the whole room with the hot air coming from the oven and circulating. I honestly do notice the entire room heating up when I do this.

Bleed your radiators

If radiators are cold on top but warm at the bottom, this means they will need bleeding. This is easier to do than you may think and there are some easy to follow guides online. If you have a room you don’t spend much time in, set your radiator to the lowest level and keep the door shut to help the warmth stay in the room. Remember to keep radiators clear, with no objects blocking it, otherwise the heat will go into the furniture in front of the radiator, e.g. the sofa.
