My Favourite Restaurants In York

I grew up in and live in the beautiful city of York. The city is well known for the variety of food options it offers. Bookatable asked me to write a blog post on my favourite restaurants and dining experiences in York. My boyfriend and I enjoy dining out as often as we can, but his family also treat us often with incredible meals. In my list, I am including a mixture of affordable eateries, afternoon teas and more exclusive dining options, as our fabulous city just has so much to offer on the food front.

 

Joe’s Kitchen – Unit 1, 1-3 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Located on the main shopping street in York City Centre, Coney Street, Joe’s Kitchen offers affordable food in a family friendly restaurant. We’ve dined at Joe’s Kitchen on two occasions for the purpose of reviews, but we’ve also been back ourselves. Joe’s Kitchen have some great options, including traditional “pub classics” or thai curry. You can read my review of Joe’s Kitchen York here.

 

The Fox & Roman – 58 Tadcaster Road, Dringhouses, York YO24 1LR

Situated on Tadcaster Road, York, The Fox & Roman is a refurbished pub which offers tasty food, with plenty of parking. I reviewed The Fox & Roman York on my food blog, Feast Upon York. For my review, we tried the fixed price menu so I had the opportunity to try three courses. It’s a dog friendly pub, which is always useful to know if you have any canine friends.

 

Garden Room at The Principal York Hotel – Station Rd, York YO24 1AA

Situated in the stunning The Principal York Hotel, The Garden Room is lovely and relaxing. This afternoon tea is not one to miss, if you get the chance – you must treat yourself. Afternoon Tea at The Grand – Station Rise, York YO1 6GD

My mum had told me how delicious the afternoon tea was at The Grand, so when they invited me to review Afternoon Tea by Hudsons at The Grand, I brought my mum along to experience it with me. Hudsons is The Grand’s fine dining restaurant and I can safely say their afternoon tea will not disappoint. Arras – The Old Coach House, Peasholme Green, York YO1 7PW

Arras is a unique fine dining experience which everyone needs to try at least once, although you do have to book a few weeks in advance if you’re wanting peak days/times. I’ve now dined at Arras twice (Kiel’s brilliant parents treated us both times which we were so thankful for), which was absolutely brilliant both times with regards to the service, the food and the presentation of it all. Skosh – 98 Micklegate, York YO1 6JX

Offering a grazing style menu, Skosh has had some excellent reviews from food critics. Skosh means, “A little or a small amount from the Japanese word sukoshi.” and they offer an exciting dining experience. Again, there is usually a waiting list for Skosh so I’d recommend booking in advance! Read my full review of Skosh York, here.
