The Cat’s Whiskers – York Cat Cafe

I want to begin this blog post/review by stating that I am reviewing my experience at The Cat’s Whiskers as I enjoyed my experience so much. I have in no way received any compensation for this review. As it was bank holiday Monday, my family and I decided to check out the York cat cafe for ourselves, as we all love cats. We decided to book in advance, as I know from visiting the cat café in Manchester that it can be incredibly busy so it’s best to book an hour slot. At the time of writing this blog post, there are currently 11 cats but we were told there are some more coming.

You can also order drinks and cakes, which are from a locally sourced food provider (a bakery) in Pocklington. As you can see, I ordered a slice of vegan cake – the vegan vanilla and raspberry cake. The cats have no access to kitchen and hygiene is taken very seriously. The York cat cafe will be closed on Tuesdays for deep cleaning. There are two floors, in which the cats are mingling throughout with guests. The cats can come and go, and go upstairs to a private room to get away from people if they aren’t feeling sociable.

During my visit I met Snowy, Olaf, Teddy, Freddie, Bear, Marley (very briefly), Willow and Kimba. Meeting 8 out of 11 cats is definitely a good amount! Of course, there are house rules (such as do not pick the cats up) as the cats safety is the most important thing. Being around animals really helps with my anxiety, so I feel this is going to be a regular hangout for myself. I really loved my visit!

The Cat’s Whiskers provides a relaxing atmosphere, for people to enjoy some cake and mingle with some adorable feline friends. The price is £7 an hour, which goes towards caring for the cats as the York cat cafe is their home.
