The Forum – Sheffield – Winter Menu 2015

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Bloggers Winter Menu tasting at The Forum – Sheffield last week. I’d never actually tried The Forum’s food before, even though I used to live next door. However, I’ve popped in for a drink with friends a couple of times.

The evening began with a beautifully made cocktail, The Forum’s Orange Blossom Crusta. It was such a lovely drink to start the evening off. There’s such a variety on the 2015 Winter menu, including Salmon & Sweet Potato Fishcakes or Sourdough Toasties. Executive Chef, Andy, talked us through the menu with so much passion, explaining where they got their inspiration for the new menu from.

Andy explained how The Forum use local suppliers including Mr Pickles for their meat and Seven Hills Bakery for their bread buns, which is a great way of supporting local businesses.

Starters

Firstly we tried the Spicy Sriracha Hummus. I’m not usually a fan of anything spicy, but I decided to give this a try. I’m so glad I did – it was really delicious. I forgot how much I like hummus.

Next was Baby Back Ribs and Rarebit Fondue, I love blue cheese and the fresh bread which arrived alongside it is baked by Seven Hills Bakery. The ribs were so soft and I really enjoyed them.

Straight afterwards we were given the choice of Mini Beef Burgers and Bulgogi Beef Steamed Buns/Kimchi Pork Belly Steamed Buns. The bread on the mini burgers was fresh again from Seven Hills Bakery, I just had half a burger as I could feel myself getting quite full. I opted for the Bulgogi Beef Steamed Buns, I do wish I’d got to try the pork but the beef was really lovely. I’ve tried steamed buns before so I knew I’d like these. When I return to The Forum for food in future, I’ll be ordering these in a heart beat!

Mains

Now it’s over to the mains! I was excited to try the Korean Pork Belly Burrito, which was very tasty and lived up to my expectations. I’d definitely order it in future.

Something for the vegetarians now! The Soy Glazed Tofu Skewers looked beautiful, I didn’t try any purely because I wanted to give non-meat eaters the chance to eat them. I love chicken so I happily selected the Chicken Skewers. They were very enjoyable.

The Pork Tomahawk Chop definitely lives up to the name – it’s huge. It was so juicy and tender, I kept going back for more, that’s just how nice it was.

There was also Crispy Cod Pakora – a tasty fish dish. I didn’t actually realise what it was until I got home later that evening, I didn’t hear what it was when they put it out on the table. It looked great and tasted even better. The sauce which came with it was yummy.

To compliment our mains, we were served a new cocktail from the menu – a Lemon Daiquiri with sweet potato. I know it sounds… odd, but it was surprisingly lovely. I’d happily buy myself one of these on a night out.

Desserts

Oh gosh, it was time for desserts. The Deep Fried Korean Ice Cream Sandwich was to die for. I was full so I sampled a tiny bit with each flavour of ice cream.

Next up was the Hotteok – Filled Pancake with coconut ice cream. I was unsure about this but I genuinely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get a photograph of these.

The Homemade Rolo Brownie completely stole the show. It was absolutely amazing. The sweet brownie melted in your mouth, it was heavenly.

Our final cocktail of the evening was a Whiskey Sour. Unfortunately I wasn’t very keen on it. I did try to give it a chance but I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy the taste. It’s a drink my boyfriend would have liked though!
