York Floods 2015 – Yorkshire and Proud!

By now I’m sure you will have heard about the flooding over the past few days, in my home-town of York, which started on Boxing Day. Tonight, I’m feeling SO proud to be from Yorkshire and to live here! The emergency services, police, army have done an amazing job but the people of York really do deserve a pat on the back. So many people of all ages have offered help, volunteered, etc over the past few days.

My family and I are really lucky that we live in a part of York which doesn’t flood, but some of my friends and so many other people have been evacuated from their homes due to the flooding.

Last night I saw wonderful photos etc posted on Facebook about the efforts to help, including the volunteers at Foxwood Community Centre.

Today I went along to one of the donation points in Acomb to drop off a variety of items including a blanket, toiletries and more at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was pretty emotional seeing all the donations from the community. They STILL need our donations – only cleaning items and non-perishable food items please.

If you’d like to volunteer now or during the clean-up process, head over to the Facebook page linked at the end of this blog post – where you should be able to find more information.

The reason I’m writing this post is because I still want to do my bit. Even though I’m now not in York to help in person, I’m hoping I can maybe raise some awareness online.

If you’re based in or near York and want to help/volunteer/donate, join the York Floods 2015 Facebook page! However, if you’re not near York but would still like to help – you can donate via the York Floods 2015 – Relief Fund gofundme page. Thank you!
