2021 Highlights & Welcoming 2022

We’re now in 2022 and we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s been a relatively good year for myself and Tom. I’m not really one for new years resolutions as such, but I like to reflect and consider what it is we want in the future. I did take a tiny step back from blogging, not posting as much – mainly due to covid. I felt like I didn’t have much to post because over certain periods, as you couldn’t really go anywhere.

 

 

Yummy meals out and catching up with friends

We had some totally delicious food and meals out in 2021. I introduced Tom to the amazingness that is Doner Summer. We had steak at one of our favourite restaurants, Cut and Craft, on multiple occasions. We tried new places where neither of us had been before, such as Yolk Farm Kitchen. We ate lots street food and we also sat in the freezing cold outside having a tapas feast at Las Iguanas (when the restrictions were in place and you could only dine outside).

 

We moved in together

We moved into our wonderful apartment, which feels so homely. We knew we wanted to set up a gaming space, as gaming is something we both enjoy. We’ve changed the gaming room around a lot since this photo. I will try to remember to write an update post about our gaming room in the near future.

 

Visited the cat café in York for Tom’s birthday

Restrictions were lifted in the UK, just as it was Tom’s birthday. I was struggling with ideas of how we could celebrate due to the restrictions, so I booked a slot for us to visit the cat café in York – The Cat’s Whiskers. We had such wonderful cuddles with the absolutely beautiful Pumpkin, who was loving the attention.

 

 

Job changes

Both of us also made some tough decisions in 2021, such as accepting new jobs. This wasn’t planned out at all, but Tom made the decision first and as we approached summer, I started to evaluate what I actually wanted for us and our future. I then made the choice (which wasn’t easy at all) to leave my lovely job as a teaching assistant. I’m currently working as a financial administrator which I do genuinely enjoy. Our office has now moved, but over summer I was spending my lunch breaks enjoying the sunshine in a little church yard near the old office.

 

We’re engaged!

We then ended the year on a high, Tom asked me to marry him and I said yes! We’d booked a beautiful lodge with a hot tub as a bit of a birthday/Christmas treat. Upon arrival, the lodge was decorated so lovely with flowers, balloons, rose petals, etc.

 

I turned 31!

I swear birthdays get more boring the older you get, but after the excitement and how busy we were from getting engaged the week before my birthday, I was happy to just relax and enjoy some time together for my birthday and Christmas.

 

To say this year involved lockdowns and covid restrictions, I do think we had a good year and we did what we could – when we could! In 2022, our focus is going to be saving for a house and our wedding. It all feels very grown up. I also want to re-focus with regards to my blog and I’d like to post more often. Fingers crossed the covid situation improves so we can visit more places in 2022. Plus, I will finally get to meet Tom’s parents in person as we should finally be able to get to Spain and see them!
