On Tuesday mum and I headed to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire for a festive day out. I first visited Chatsworth House last Christmas with Becky. Each Christmas, Chatsworth transforms into a Winter Wonderland with a different theme.
We arrived at Chatsworth House around 11:30am, but our booking for viewing the house wasn’t until 1:30pm so we had a few hours to spare. Firstly we went into the courtyard and browsed around the shops, then we went into one of the restaurants for some food. I had a sandwich and my mum had a bowl of homemade soup.
Once we’d finished eating, we decided to have a walk around the gardens and grounds. Wow, they are so incredibly spectacular. Even though the weather wasn’t great, the gardens are truly beautiful.
Our house tour time was 1:30pm and we were first in the queue because of the cold and rain, we wanted to be dry haha. The house itself is stunning and the grounds are beautiful. The staff and volunteers were all dressed up and played their characters well. Each room was themed in relation to The Nutcracker and decorated beautifully.
My favourite parts was the snowflakes section, or the floral section. It was so amazing seeing a tree decorated in really bright floral colours, I’m guessing this is to fit in with the floral workshops that are held at Chatsworth House.
The library above is so beautiful (#librarygoals) and reminds me of something from Hogwarts. It’s such a stunning room.
Once we’d finished the house tour, we had a browse around the shop and then went into the little café next door for a hot drink and biscuits. After warming up a bit, we headed back to the courtyard and had another browse around the shops. The jewellery was especially gorgeous, with some pieces which were really unique.
There was still some time to kill, so we went up to the farm yard. Oh my god, I loved it – anyone who knows me knows how much I love animals. There were horses, ponies, pigs, piglets, rabbits, sheep, goats, a donkey, guinea pigs and a cow. It was so lovely seeing the animals and they all seemed very content, especially this sleepy piggy – just look at that smile!
If you’re expecting a magical day during your visit to Chatsworth House, you won’t be disappointed! Every room of the house tour was beautifully decorated and the whole experience made me feel very festive. If you get the chance to go, please do. Visiting Chatsworth at Christmas has definitely turned into a festive tradition of mine and I’m hoping to go every year in future.
